Make Your Wine Bottle Holder A Centerpiece

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

In the past, a wine bottle holder was simple. Just a method to hold onto a bottle of wine. But they have since evolved into some very unique designs. From modern art chic to completely unexpected, you can easily transform something as simple as a wine bottle holder into a centerpiece for your table.

Typical wine bottle holders will hang onto one bottle of wine. They will all do so in different ways. Many of them require you to insert the neck of the bottle into the holder, and the design uses the neck to suspend the bottle. Some holders have a basic wooden curve design, or even an interesting slant that makes it seem as though your bottle and the holder itself are defying gravity.

Find a holder that speaks to you. Whether it’s a clever creature designed to hold your wine or a classy wire holder that showcases images of grapes and vines, there is bound to be something that suits your style. Place it in the center of your table with that night’s wine choice and just listen as the compliments roll in.

Finding Wine Gifts Online

Friday, April 20th, 2012

There are many different gifts you can give when a special occasion is coming up, but what about something unexpected?

You can find excellent wine gifts online when you know where to look. There are several sites that specialize in wine gifts. These gifts aren’t just bottles of wine either. They can include glasses, various accessories, and a wide variety of foods that can be enjoyed with wine, from chocolates to crackers. Some locations will work just with things like wine baskets that can have a great range of delights in them, such as one or more bottles of wine, wine accessories, and food, all in a perfectly crafted package that is delivered straight to the recipient’s door.

What is one of the great things about purchasing wine gifts online – if your recipient lives too far away for you to deliver the gift yourself, you can use the order form on the website to tell them where to send the gift. You should keep in mind, though, not all locations can have wine sent to them. Accessories and food are often acceptable, but certain states do not allow the sending of wine. Check with the website before you try to make a purchase!

Discovering Unique Wine Glasses

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Most people believe that wine glasses are all the same. However, this is not true. This day and age, wine glasses come in all sorts of different styles that can mean finding the perfect set that suits your personality. But just where can you find unique wine glasses?

You may want to take a look in a few unexpected places first, such as antique stores or even an estate sale. You never know what you might find when it comes to older glasses. You might just wind up with a set of unique wine glasses that will wow your friends the next time they visit.

If you can’t find any locally, then it may be time to expand your hunt to online locations. Thousands of different places offer wine glasses, and many will include unique wine glasses to their list of products. Online stores may show you perfect wine glasses that suit your needs exactly. Remember what you want to see when you pour wine into your glasses so you don’t get too excited, buy a set, and then realize they don’t work. Do you truly want colored glasses, or do you want to be able to see the wine swirling in the glass? Do you want the stem to have a strange shape, or do you want to be able to hold it comfortably? It is important to put your wine enjoyment first and aesthetics second so you can enjoy your glasses for years to come.

Getting Wine Wholesale

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Sometimes people may think that the term “wine wholesale” means that they can get wine cheaper. However, this is not necessarily the case.

When you are seeking wine wholesale, that means you should be seeking out wine in large quantities. These larger quantities can be purchased at a lesser price than what it will sell for in a store. This requires buying in bulk, and unless you are a retailer looking to sell wine, buying in bulk is not something you want to do.

However, if you are hoping to get wholesale wine, there are many locations to do so. A quick search online will reveal many wholesale wine companies that can give you an excellent selection to choose from. Some vineyards have plenty of bottles that allow them to sell to locations wholesale. Know your budget and what type of wine you want so you can make an excellent choice when the time comes.

There are locations that purchase their wine wholesale that can help you save a little money the next time you hope to buy a bottle or two. You can always ask, or just forget all about wholesale and buy what you want!

What is a Wine Vacuum Pump?

Friday, April 13th, 2012

You’ve opened a bottle of wine. You and your company have had a great time, but now the occasion is over and you still have some wine left. What do you do?

This is where a wine vacuum pump can be an extremely handy tool. This is especially true if you often enjoy wine and have unfinished bottles. Many wine drinkers won’t finish off an entire bottle in an evening – even with company, and a wine vacuum pump can help give your wine a longer life.

Wine vacuum pumps are just what they sound like. These are tools that can be used to help remove the air from within a wine bottle. A rubber piece is inserted into the opening of the bottle and a pump, typically a hand-operated version (though there are many fancier designs out there if you prefer), is used to remove the air from the bottle. The vacuum created is not going to be a complete vacuum in which all of the air is removed, but a significant amount can be extracted which may help to keep your wine fresher as you store it.

However, there are some who claim that using a wine vacuum pump actually has a detrimental effect because it not only removes oxygen but also the elements of the wine that help make up the aroma. This is one of those subjects that is best left to the taster to decide, so you will have to make the final decision for yourself.

Two pumps that I recommend are the VacuVin and the Pump Wine Saver

Giving Gifts of Wine

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

A special occasion coming up? Don’t know what to give to that person or couple? Gifts of wine can be appreciated when handled the right way.

One of the biggest problems people have when it comes to giving others wine is figuring out which wines to buy. Some people have serious preferences, which can make choosing something very difficult. Yet at the same time, other people may not have much insight to give, which can make a final choice equally difficult.

If you’re not sure what to buy but do know you want to offer gifts of wine, you can always simply ask the person in a casual way. Go to dinner and see what they order, or ask if they prefer red over white, or if they find there is a big difference between California wines and others. You can start up a whole conversation about wine this way that can help you put together plenty of details to make a final choice.

Don’t be afraid to enlist the help of others as well such as friends, family members, or spouses. If they know the wine preference of the person you want to give the wine to, then they can help enlighten you in what to purchase.

One bottle is typically the best choice unless you know they have a good place to store wine to keep it at the right temperature until it is ready to be enjoyed.

The Beauty of a Wine Carafe

Friday, April 6th, 2012

There are different ways you can serve wine. Maybe people simply opt to leave it in the bottle, which can allow others to examine the label if they like.

But other people have found that if they want to let the wine breathe freely and serve it in a more elegant fashion, a wine carafe is an excellent choice. Wine carafes come in many different shapes that can really add a bit of splendor to any evening. They’re made to hold wine, often with a wider base and a more narrow neck. Simply pour the wine into the carafe and then serve guests from the carafe. You don’t need to pour in the entire bottle if you don’t want to.

Most wine carafes are made of clear glass, but you can upgrade your carafe to something even fancier if you like. From faceted glass to colored glass, different shapes, and unique designs, choose one that suits your style. People will be interested in where you found your carafe and how well it serves you. A wine carafe can make any occasion just a little more special.

You can find them in many places, including online. Consider what your next dinner party might look like with a carafe as the centerpiece!

No Cork? Get Some Wine Bottle Stoppers

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

Not every cork will stay intact after it’s removed. Some people occasionally find themselves having an epic battle just to get the cork out of the bottle. If the cork falls apart or is otherwise unusable after it is taken out, there’s no need to worry about closing up the bottle again – as long as you have a wine bottle stopper.

Wine bottle stoppers vary in their construction materials, but they all serve the same function – to keep wine as fresh as possible and make sure it stays inside the bottle at all times. It allows you to use a bottle over a period of time when the cork is no longer usable – or you just don’t like trying to put the cork back in after all the work to remove it. They come in a variety of shapes and can include helpful implements as well, such as wine bottle stoppers with small levers to easily remove them.

Others can make a typical holiday just a bit more festive. Find a bottle stopper with a black spider fashioned on top for Halloween. Or how about those featuring little reindeer or penguins at Christmas time?

The possibilities are endless. So, if the cork becomes a problem, put that cork down and opt for a wine bottle stopper instead.

Interested in Plastic Wine Bottles?

Friday, March 30th, 2012

For centuries since the discovery of glass bottles, wine has been stored in such a fashion. But today some wineries are changing that. Instead, they are opting for plastic wine bottles, something that some say is a break with tradition.

There are upsides as well as downsides to the change in plastic. For many, they have discovered that plastic is a cheaper option. At the same time, plastic has the ability to protect wine in ways that glass cannot when it comes to such things as light and even air through the top. Plastic wine bottles have different closure methods, which means the cork would disappear along with the glass. Plastic is also less prone to breakage and is lighter to ship.

However, plastic is much less eco-friendly due to the need for petroleum in its production. It can be recycled, but it still means the initial bottles need to be made, and if more and more wineries opt for plastic, more and more bottles will need to be made.

Many people object to plastic not for eco reasons, but because they believe plastic bottles have a less classy look than glass, as well as the well-worn tradition of glass bottles. It may be that one day things will change, but for now you can expect glass to stick around.

Will Wine Bottle Corks Ever Disappear?

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

With our advancements in technology today and our ability to seal things shut to the point of giving them a slight vacuum for freshness, some have pondered the demise of the cork. Corks are, by nature, somewhat porous, and if not handled properly, the cork can actually rot and leave winemakers with a bottle they can no longer use.

While this problem is few and far between, some people have wondered if perhaps the time has come to update wine bottles with newer methods of sealing the wine inside. In truth, it isn’t a bad idea. People who want wine to stay fresh appreciate the abilities that other closures can offer for wine. Likewise, people who don’t finish an entire bottle at once would also appreciate the ability to twist on a cap or other type of closure instead of attempting to cram the cork back in.

Still, wine has such a long and distinguished history; it’s not likely that we’ll see the cork go anywhere anytime soon. People associate wine with glass bottles and corks – anything else seems to fly in the face of tradition. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future, but for now, expect the cork to stick around.
