A Bottle Per Month: The Gift Of Wine

Friday, September 16th, 2011

Usually when people think about wine gifts, they immediately think of wine gift baskets or signing people up for wine of the month clubs. You can easily do your own gift of wine, but with a more personal touch. It may take some effort and occasional sneaky conversations, but if you really care for the person, it can be well worth it.

Wine clubs send out a bottle every month to the person. The way you make it personal is by talking to the person, finding out what he or she likes, and then choosing the bottle yourself and sending it out each month for them to enjoy. Doing this may make some people pause – what if the person doesn’t like the wine you chose? Don’t worry. The same thing is bound to happen even with a wine club. When you talk to the person and find out what they like to drink, what sort of flavors they enjoy, what they might like to try, and what would surprise them, you can gather a wealth of information for your own choices.

From there, it’s just a matter of choosing wine and making sure it ends up in their hands.

The Gift that Keeps On Giving: Wine of the Month Clubs

Monday, December 6th, 2010

Another great gift for wine lovers, should you run out of ideas for gifts this year, is the Wine of the Month Club.  There are several that are available for you to sign your friend up with, from Food & Wine magazine’s picks to the original Wine of the Month Club.  All it takes is a quick online search and you’ll find yourself with plenty to choose from.

Most clubs are able to ship to multiple areas, which means that you’re more likely to be able to join.  Each month your friend or special someone will receive a package in the mail containing a different wine.  Many clubs offer different memberships, in which the receiver will not only get one bottle, but two and occasionally more.  There are plenty of choices available, such as one red and one white, or all reds and all whites throughout the year.  Be sure you know what the person likes to drink so you get the right membership.  There are also imported wines to choose from, domestics, and for some memberships, premium wines.

You can also decide whether wines will arrive monthly, every other month, or even quarterly.

And, don’t forget those special gifts for wine lovers found HERE

Wine Tasting In Your Own Home

Friday, March 5th, 2010

There are times when choosing just the right wine can be confusing or just downright frustrating.  People who are serious about their wine know exactly what to look for, whereas the casual wine drinker may feel lost in a store full of various bottles.

If you aren’t sure what to drink, you can let someone else make the choice for you.  There are dozens of wine clubs available that choose great wines to send to members each month.  Most wine clubs, such as the one offered by Food & Wine, allow you to pay a flat fee for 6 or 12 bottles of high quality wine.  This also allows you to control how much wine you get and how much you pay, leaving you without any locked-in commitment.

By joining a wine club, you can discover great new wines and learn a little more about what you like in the process.
